IC-FDG-2016, the Fourth International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar, will be held in in Vienna, Austria, from 31 August to 3 September 2016.

The conference will be preceded by a Course on FDG ( IPC-FDG-2016) taught by Kees Hengeveld (University of Amsterdam) and J. Lachlan Mackenzie (VU University Amsterdam).

Objectives

The aim of IC-FDG-2016 is to further elaborate the model of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie. A full treatment of FDG may be found in: Hengeveld, Kees and Mackenzie, J. Lachlan 2008. Functional Discourse Grammar: A typologically-based theory of language structure. Oxford: Oxford University Press.

Conference programme

All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance discussion between participants. Presentations will be 30 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion. The programme will also include a poster session . The language of the conference will be English.

Abstracts

Each abstract should contain at least the following information: a clearly defined and well-motivated research question; crucial examples illustrating the relevance of the research question for the theory of FDG; main conclusions. Abstracts should be approximately 1,000 words long (excluding references), i.e. roughly 3 pages. The abstract should be anonymized, i.e. should not contain the name of the author, (remember also to replace all bibliographical references to works of the author simply by “Author” (year) and to remove the author’s name from the computer file). Please indicate in the accompanying message whether you want to present a paper or a poster. The deadline for the submission of abstracts of papers and posters is 1 February 2016. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to the International Secretary of the Functional Discourse Grammar Foundation (FDGF) at fg-fgw@uva.nl.

Both IC-FDG-2016 and IPC-FDG-2016 will take place at the University of Vienna, Department of English and American Studies, University Campus, Hof 8.3. The nearest street entrance is Garnisongasse 13, see this map.

Organizing Committee

The Organizing Committee consists of Evelien Keizer, Julia Skala and Elnora Ten Wolde (all University of Vienna).

Programme Committee

The Board of the FDGF has appointed a Programme Committee consisting of the following members: Ventura Salazar García (Chair, University of Jaén), Evelien Keizer (University of Vienna), and Marize Mattos Dall’Aglio Hattnher (State University of São Paulo). The Programme Committee will evaluate all the abstracts submitted for the conference. Abstracts submitted by members of the Programme Committee will be evaluated by an independent member of the Board of the FDGF.
