FDG2018, the Fifth International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar, will be held in Salvador, Brazil, from 26-28 July 2018.

This conference will be preceded by an International Preconference Course on FDG on 24 and 25 July 2018, which will itself be preceded by a Portuguese-taught Introdução preliminar à Gramática Discursivo-Funcional on 23 July 2018.

Objectives

The aim of FDG2018 is to further elaborate the model of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie. The conference

All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance discussion between participants. A poster session will be part of the programme. The language of the conference will be English.

The venue

FDG2018 will take place in the Associação Cultural Brasil ‒ Estados Unidos (ACBEU) Av. Sete de Setembro, 1883, Vitória, 40.080-002 Salvador ‒ BA, Brazil.

Organizing Committee

The members of the Organizing Committee are: Hella Olbertz (Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana / University of Amsterdam), Josane Moreira de Oliveira (Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana / Universidade Federal da Bahia), Marize Mattos Dall' Aglio Hattnher (Universidade Estadual de São Paulo).

Preconference course

The preconference course on FDG prepares the students for participation in the conference and is aimed at graduates and postgraduates and will be taught by Kees Hengeveld (University of Amsterdam), Evelien Keizer (University of Vienna), and J. Lachlan Mackenzie (VU University of Amsterdam). The course will be taught in English.

Introdução preliminar à Gramática Discursivo-Funcional

This Portuguese-taught preamble to the preconference course aims at making the participants familiar with the English terminology used in the Preconference Course.
