FDG2024
FDG2024, the Eighth International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar, will be held in São Carlos, Brazil, from 3-5 July 2024.
This conference will be preceded by an International Preconference Course on FDG on 1 and 2 July 2024.
Objectives
The aim of FDG2024 is to further elaborate the model of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan Mackenzie. The conference
All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance discussion between participants. A poster session will be part of the programme. The language of the conference will be English.
The venue
FDG2024 will take place at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos – UFSCar, São Carlos - SP, Brazil. Transportation from the airports of São Paulo and Campinas to the venue will be offered at an additional fee.
Abstracts
Abstracts should contain at least the following items: a clearly defined and well-motivated research question; the crucial examples illustrating the relevance of the research question; and the main conclusions of the paper. Abstracts should be approximately 1,000 words long, i.e. roughly 3 pages, and should not contain the name of the author. References to literature cited should be provided in addition to the 1,000 words. References containing the name of the author may also be given but will be suppressed before the abstract is sent to the programme committee. Please indicate in the accompanying message whether you want to present a paper or a poster. The deadline for the submission of abstracts of papers and posters is February 1, 2024. Abstracts should be submitted electronically as a .doc file to the International Secretary of the Functional Discourse Grammar Foundation at functionaldiscoursegrammar@gmail.com.
Organizing Committee
The members of the Organizing Committee are: Michel Fontes (Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS/CPTL), Marize Mattos Dall'Aglio Hattnher (Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP), Taisa Peres de Oliveira (Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS/CPTL), and Flavia Bezerra de Menezes Hirata Vale (Chair, Universidade Federal de São Carlos - UFSCar).
Programme Committee
The board of the Functional Discourse Grammar Foundation has appointed a Programme Committee that consists of the following members: Daniel García Velasco (Universidad de Oviedo), Kees Hengeveld (Chair, University of Amsterdam), and Flavia Bezerra de Menezes Hirata Vale (Universidade Federal de São Carlos). The Programme Committee will evaluate anonymized abstracts and decide on their inclusion in the conference programme. Abstracts submitted by members of the Programme Committee themselves will be evaluated by an independent member of the board of the Functional Discourse Grammar Foundation.
Preconference course
The preconference course on FDG prepares the students for participation in the conference and is aimed at graduates and postgraduates and will be taught by Kees Hengeveld (Universiteit van Amsterdam) and Daniel García Velasco (Universidad de Oviedo). The course will be taught in English.
