Preceding the International Conference on Functional Discourse Grammar FDG2024, an International Postgraduate Course in Functional Discourse Grammar will be held in São Carlos, Brazil, on 1 and 2 July, 2024.

Objectives

The intensive International Postgraduate Course on the theory of Functional Discourse Grammar is organized during the days preceding IC-FDG-2024 to enable linguists unfamiliar with the theory to prepare for participation in the conference. The course is organized with doctoral students in mind.

The course and the introduction will be taught by Daniel García Velasco (Universidad de Oviedo) and Kees Hengeveld (University of Amsterdam.

Preparation

Participants are asked to read the following text in preparation of the course: Hengeveld, Kees & Mackenzie, J. Lachlan (2010), Functional Discourse Grammar. In: Bernd Heine and Heiko Narrog eds, The Oxford Handbook of Linguistic Analysis. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 367-400. (Second edition 2015). This text will be distributed among the participants before the start of the course.
